Water Cures is one of the best depression natural remedies. There is so much science backing it, the question is, why would anyone start with something else....unless profits were more important than helping people?

Our brain is dependent on hydration. With only a small percentage drop in our hydration status can cause a significant change in mental acuity. No wonder that Dr. B. found that depression is linked with drought.

The following is a letter sent to Dr. B. that was shared with his dear friend, Bob Butts and is included here with permission.

Dear Dr. Batmanghelidj,

I just became aware of your book, "Your Body's Many Cries for Water." I will be forever grateful for your years of research in reference to the role of water in the functioning of the human body. The chapter in the book pertaining to depression was the solution to over ten years of struggle in my life.

In your book, your simple formula for drinking water (the Water Cures Protocol) has been the answer for my depression. In addition to the salt with the water, I ingest at least 3/4 teaspoon of table salt with my food during the same 24 hour period.

I am a 68-year-old retired professional chemical engineer. I had battled with depression symptoms from 1985-1995. My wife, a nurse clinician, passed away in 1984. I was forced into early retirement after 33 1/2 years with a major oil company in 1985. Those familiar with the role of high stress causing dehydration will understand my problem. In addition, I had brought into the idea that a low fat diet was the way to good health. (Editors note: We know low fat diets cause health problems). Thus, all the factors were in place for my body to show symptoms of depression.

What I know now is that most of the anti-depressants used to treat patients with depression are also diuretics. I always manifested the symptoms of extreme dry mouth sensation after being placed on anti-depressants. The symptom of anxiety then comes forth because of the additional need for water by the body. Add a prescribed anti-anxiety pill and the patient (me) was on a chemical teeter totter trying to achieve a balance of a normal life.

Plus, in the Physicians Desk Reference (PDR), in the listing for the above, is a nice word, suicide. I have struggled when on anti-depressants and anit-anxiety medications with the fleeting surges of the mind wanting to die. however, I never had the courage to act out the desire.

In summary, for over a year I have been free of the need to take any medication of any kind. In December, I qualified with no medical restrictions for a Class III physical for a private pilot's license. In addition, my annual eye check revealed that my eye peripheral vision had improved relative t previous annual tests. My beliefs is that the cells in the eyes have become better hydrated. I can read without glasses.

While the water cures is not a depression cure for everyone, it is one of the most basic and first ways that should be tried for ending depression. Additional causes that should be considered, Vitamin B12 deficiency and low levels of Vitamin D3 (and take vitamin K2 mk-7 if you take the D3) could be the cause.

Our Grandparents Knew About Mixing Hydration and Eating!

It is amazing how so many things that are new to us were common knowledge in the past. One basic practice of the Water Cures protocol is to drink at least 30-45 minutes before and 2 1/2 hours after a meal. This is not a new thought however. Notice what a magazine from 1925 had to say...

"Drink plenty of water two hours after each meal; drink none just before eating; and a small quantity if any at meal time. Do not take a bath until two hours after eating a meal, nor closer than one hour before eating. Drink a full glass of water both before and after the bath." (Golden Age, Sept. 9, 1925, pp. 784-785)

Heal Your Headache It Worked For Me

Hi, my name is Sharon. The webmaster of this site is my nurse, my personal water coach and my husband.

As this site was first being built, I had a headache and as usual took an Ibuprofen. Impatient for it to start working, I decided to try the Water Cures. I took a pinch of salt and a glass of water.
