This is a comprehensive look at the question, 'Why am I always tired. There are many causes. There is one basic solution as well as variations on that solution. Some involve the Water Cures Protocol. Some involve what you eat.
2. Fluid and Electrolyte Imbalance: Less than Bodies Needs
Dehydration is perhaps the most basic and most common cause of the 'why am I always tired' feeling. Most doctors, nurses and even medical text books will say a good indicator of your hydration status is the color of your urine. This is wrong, at least according to the research. Studies have found that this is only an indicator of the last time you drank water and not how well hydrated you are. By some estimates, it could take up to 2 weeks to get your body back to proper hydration status.
In all there are 262 potential causes of dehydration other than not drinking enough water. This means there are over 260 causes of "why am I always tired?"
Believe it or not....drinking too much water without electrolytes (salt) is one of the 262 causes of dehydration.
Solution to End Dehydration: Drink water. But you need more than water to get it to each of your trillion cells. Ideally we need about 10% our body weight each time we drink and we need to drink about 5 times a day apart from meals for optimal health. This amount is only a baseline. Children, athletes and those working in extreme heat or in very strenuous jobs need more.
And water alone will not properly hydrate our bodies. Research has also found that water is a diuretic. It causes you to lose water and salt. At some point, the body will stop or slow down the salt loss but it is eventually lost. If the salt is not replaced, you will feel tired and run down. Will You Get This Wrong? For most, it is best to put the salt on your tongue. For some reason, some do not hear this and put the salt in their water and write back and say it did not work or made them sick. Put the salt on the tongue so it gets in your blood.
More than just dehydration, it involves the lack of water along with salt, potassium, magnesium and calcium to name a few. Closely related to dehydration, it is also a cause of 'why am I always dehydrated.'
There are over 217 possible causes of fluid and electrolyte imbalance. The first and foremost cause happens in the space between your ears. We hear and subsequently believe we need to cut back on salt, all the time we are eating processed foods with more and more salt.
The problem (and there are a few), table salt is bad for us. But we need salt for health. Studies show that low salt diets kill, yet we are told to eat less salt. The key to health, unprocessed salt with over 80 minerals....it is essential for life. If we do not get the vital minerals found in unprocessed salt from other sources, for many, there is eventually a breakdown and our bodies enter a state of dis-ease. Many diseases are simply the result of a lack of water and unprocessed salt (fluid and electrolyte imbalance).

Not having enough red blood cells floating around in your body could cause you to be fatigued and the why am I always tired feeling. In research looking at what happens to astronauts, it was found that dehydration shuts off the bodies making of blood. This makes sense for a number of reasons. Blood needs fluids to help transport the red blood cells. Too many floating around in not enough fluids could cause problem. Thus the body has a natural response to when there is not enough fluids in the blood, stopping the blood production.
This is especially true of women who may become anemic due to blood loss from menstrual blood. Yes, even though they do not lose that much, there is still a problem with anemia that women experience.
Often times, there is a iron deficiency. Our red blood cells carry oxygen and energy to your tissues and organs. The iron is the main component responsible for carrying the oxygen. There are over 400 types of anemia. It is the most common blood condition in the US, affecting about 3.5 million people. If you suspect you have anemia, you will need to see your doctor to know for sure.

Solution for Anemia Fatigue: Blood cell production is dependent on minerals and vitamins. The most basic cause is dehydration. Next would be lack of iron. In the past doctors looked at iron stores and not the TIBC or total iron binding capacity. The TIBC needs to be considered in knowing your true iron status. A simple solution to increase blood count involves 1) improving hydration with the water cures protocol,1 teaspoon of black strap molasses (if you have a sulfa allergy, get unsulfured) 1 table spoon of organic almond butter (for protein)

5. Thyroid Problems

If there is a family history of diabetes or if you are overweight, this could be the cause of your tiredness. Another is constantly feeling thirsty and the need for frequent trips to the bathroom.

6. Heart Disease
Our thyroid controls how we use energy. When it is not functioning at peak performance, neither are we.

Hypothyroidism (hypo = slow or under-active), results in a thyroid that is not working at peak performance. 9. Lack of Sleep Problems

Green and blue lights can wake you up at night. All lights should be out to get the best possible sleep.
Cell phones may disrupt your brain waves. Yea, we did not want to believe this but the science is suggesting this is a problem too.
Solution for Sleep Deprivation Fatigue: In health care, doing everything you can to sleep better is called sleep hygiene. This involves keeping the bedroom dark, the blankets not too cold or not too hot and no electronics in the bedroom. The bedroom should only be for sleeping and indulging in sensuous pleasures that proceed sleep (or happen on awaking).

11. What You Eat or Don't Eat

12. Food Intolerance

If you are not getting enough or getting too much of the wrong nourishment, you may experience a severe energy drain. Especially is this true of eating an excess of refined sugars and carbohydrates. They can leave you feeling like you are beat.

13. Too Much Caffeine
When you have food intolerance, you may experience fatigue and tiredness. Take note if it happens after you eat certain foods. These are often determined by an elimination diet.
You can start cutting foods you suspect and see if you feel any better. An example of food intolerance you probably have heard of is related to gluten.
Gluten is found in many foods like breads, cakes and cereals. Upwards of 1 in 100 people have celiac disease, the primary gluten intolerance condition but most may not know they even have it. That unexplained tiredness is one of the symptom of celiac disease. Also diarrhea, and anemia, which can also contribute to the feeling of "why am I always tired?"
Solution for Food Related Fatigue: Make it your goal to eat at least 50% and as much as 80% of your meals as raw fruits and vegetables. Get a raw food cook book. The dishes will not only amaze you, they will delight your palate as well.

14. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)
Caffeine, found in everything from coffee to candy and even medications, is used by millions as a kick starter for energy. While studies show a little can be good, more is bad. Drinking too much coffee can cause fatigue.

15. Heart disease

It is amazing how so many things that are new to us were common knowledge in the past. One basic practice of the Water Cures protocol is to drink at least 30-45 minutes before and 2 1/2 hours after a meal. This is not a new thought however. Notice what a magazine from 1925 had to say...
"Drink plenty of water two hours after each meal; drink none just before eating; and a small quantity if any at meal time. Do not take a bath until two hours after eating a meal, nor closer than one hour before eating. Drink a full glass of water both before and after the bath." (Golden Age, Sept. 9, 1925, pp. 784-785)

Hi, my name is Sharon. The webmaster of this site is my nurse, my personal water coach and my husband.
As this site was first being built, I had a headache and as usual took an Ibuprofen. Impatient for it to start working, I decided to try the Water Cures. I took a pinch of salt and a glass of water. Then I took a second pinch of salt and another glass of water. My headache was gone in less than 5 minutes.
From my personal experience, it usually takes 30 to 45 minutes for Ibuprofen to work. Some have found it takes ibuprofen 24 minutes to start working.
